Liu Zhao
Based in Beijing, Liu Zhao is a type and visual communication designer from China. She graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) where she is currently a teacher, researcher into the history of Chinese type design, and curator as well as Associate Director of CAFA’s China Typography Research Center.
Zhao divides her time contributing to different aspects of the Chinese typographic community: as ATypI’s country delegate; curator of the exhibitions (The Way of Type and New York Type Directors Club’s (TDC) Exhibition Tour China); and as a judge in type design contests (Granshan 2016 and Hiii Typography 2016). Additionally, she contributes to the translation of the type design software Glyphs into Chinese, and acts as editor of the Latin type design series in Chinese, supported by Central Academy of Fine Arts, the University of Reading, and AtypI. She is team partner of Source Han Sans CN and Source Han Serif CN.
